2023: live launch at SXSW
Car Reveal 2023 was a live vehicle launch produced for UTS Student Teams and presented at a temporary SXSW Sydney stage. The video was designed to introduce the team’s new Formula SAE car to a public audience, balancing technical clarity with visual impact in a live event environment.
Brief and constraints
The original concept was developed for a larger outdoor amphitheatre with a multi-screen playback setup. In the final lead-up to the event, the reveal location and technical setup changed, limiting playback to a single central screen shortly before the presentation. This required rapid adaptation of the edit to ensure: • all critical visual information remained legible on one screen • timing and pacing still aligned with the live reveal moment • the overall impact was preserved despite reduced screen real estate
Adapting the edit
I consolidated content originally designed for multiple screens into a single, squarer format suitable for the revised setup. This involved: • re-framing key shots to maintain clarity • adjusting pacing so visual beats still landed effectively in a live context • prioritising essential information over decorative elements The focus was on ensuring the video functioned reliably in the real presentation environment rather than preserving the original creative layout. I worked within brand guidelines under time pressure.
Live delivery
The revised video was delivered shortly before the reveal and played successfully during the live SXSW activation.
