University campaign proposal

UTS Sustainability Team needed a campus-wide awareness campaign to promote UN Sustainable Development Goals. Students showed low familiarity with the 17 SDGs despite engaging in sustainable practices daily. Challenge: create a tangible, visible campaign that integrates SDG education into everyday campus life. This was a university assignment for the UTS Sustainability Team. The coffee-cup concept was not produced or used.

Campus research

Conducted primary research across UTS campus including student interviews, staff surveys, and behavioural observation at high-traffic areas (library, cafes, reading rooms). Key finding: students actively practice sustainability (reusable bottles, ethical shopping, recycling) but lack awareness of the SDG framework connecting these actions to global goals. Identified SDGs 7 (Clean Energy), 10 (Reduced Inequalities), 13 (Climate Action) as priority focuses based on stakeholder mapping and interview data.

The proposal

Designed colour-coded reusable coffee cup lids, each representing a different SDG with iconography and goal number. The proposed cups would integrate into existing campus cafe infrastructure, turning daily coffee runs into SDG education touchpoints with repeated exposure across student/staff interactions. Created photorealistic 3D renders to pitch the concept, demonstrating how the campaign would appear in real-world campus environments.

Campaign development

Research-driven campaign development from stakeholder interviews to final deliverable. Translated abstract policy goals (17 SDGs) into a concrete, implementable campus activation. Combined marketing strategy (empathy mapping, stakeholder analysis, observational research) with visual execution (3D product rendering, presentation design). Project required synthesis of qualitative data, strategic thinking, and compelling visual communication to convince stakeholders of campaign viability.

Deliverables

Stakeholder maps (3-tier analysis), empathy maps (user behavior research), interview findings (7 students + sustainability coordinator), observational data (campus behavior patterns), SDG desk research (all 17 goals with Australian context), 3D product renders (4 coffee cup variations), campaign presentation deck
